Carteret County officials have issued a boil water advisory for folks in North River water system/Mill Creek.
Warning is a precaution, officials said. A recent example of the drinking water tested positive for the presence of coliform bacteria.
“Usually, coliforms are a sign that there may be problems with the treatment system or distribution (pipe),” said a statement issued by the Carteret County. “Whenever we detect coliform bacteria in the samples, we did a follow-up test to see whether greater attention, such as fecal coliform or e. coli, the bacterium to another now. We did not find one of these bacteria in our next test. However, we advise customers to boil water which is used for human consumption until we have determined that there is no longer the coliform bacteria in the system. “
Carry all the water for human consumption to the boil, simmer for a minute, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water must be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice.
